Shoulda Woulda Coulda

Standard
Friday 8th May

If I knew then
What I know now
I'd shout the truth
I'd take a vow

The sun that tanned
My youthful skin
Held secrets hidden
Deep within

A golden glow
A lavish sheen
Yet now I grasp
What once had been

If I had known
The sun's fierce glare
Could steal the years
I wasn't aware

Shoulda shielded arms
And my face
Then found shade
In an open space

Woulda slathered
Sun lotion thick
A daily, careful
Sunscreen slick

Coulda heeded warnings
They were so clear
Banished every
Childhood fear

The sun holds secrets
In its gentle glow
Melanoma waits
The truth I didn’t know
