In sunlit days 
Of youth we’d gleam 
Chasing a tan 
A golden dream 
With laughter ringing 
In the air 
We sought the warmth 
Without a care 
Then whispers turned 
To anxious dread 
As sunlight brought 
A fear instead 
The innocence 
Began to wane 
When cancer brought 
Its silent pain
